Home Lighting, Crystal Chandeliers, Wholesale Interior Lighting

You don’t have to be an electrician in order to install a quality home lighting design. By following a few simple steps you will be able to accomplish any home lighting project. Many homeowners these days do not realize just how important adequate illumination is to their abodes. The proper type of light can accent many features in your home that may have been hidden to the naked eye. Illumination projects our home to the forefront of showcasing and gives any room that beautiful touch it may have been lacking beforehand.

Home lighting involves not only adding new light fixtures to your environment, but also substituting innovative low voltage devices to replace your existing bulbs. Low voltage illumination is important for any home lighting design since you will be able to save money on those outrageous energy bills, which arrive in your mailbox every month. Most low voltage substitutions have a low LPW or lumens per watt output. Bulbs with low LPW are always more energy efficient than those using a high LPW. If you are not sure which type of bulbs are energy efficient, ask your local retailer or a professional.

There are several steps you should follow before engaging in a home lighting project. When working with electricity, safety always comes first. Before you start home lighting projects, be sure to turn off the power. To ensure that the power is indeed off, test the wires with a non-contact voltage detector, which you can purchase at your local retailer. These detectors allow you to see if a wire is carrying a charge without you ever having to touch the wire. Most of these devices can detect between 100 – 600 volts AC. What a shock it would be if you had to find this out on your own! Next, be sure the panel box is closed and locked, so no one can turn the power on while you are working on your home lighting project. Sometimes you may have to check with your local authorities to find out if a permit is needed. It is also a good idea to wear goggles and a dust mask, just in case there is any flying debris, during the process. Moreover, you don’t want to overload the circuit, so consult an expert, if you are not sure how to go about avoiding this. Finally, always have your completed project checked by a licensed professional or someone who knows a lot about electrical work. A home lighting project should be safe and effective, as well.

There are a few other important things to keep in mind when going about your home lighting design. All new home lighting fixtures should be wired back the same way the existing one was. Wires sometimes have different colors so you may need to draw a sketch in order to color coordinate the proper wiring back into its original place. Remove the old fixture and make your electrical hook ups by “tying in” to the main wires through the use of plastic connectors, better known as “wire nuts”. You can install these connectors by twisting them onto the wires. If your home lighting fixture has a ground wire, usually green or bare, connect it to any other existing ground wires and grounding screws. You can finish installing your home lighting fixture by reading the instructions provided to you by the manufacturer. If you are not good at interpreting the content of this reading material, then hire a professional electrician to take care of the dirty work.
